The Brothers Gilly
The way the Danish music scene has taken to these two unassuming but immensely talented native Irelanders, it would seem that Ireland itself has ingratiated a part of itself upon the country.
This enigmatic duo consists of the Irish brothers Fergus Alan McElligot (Bass, guitar, vocal) and Michael John McElligott (lead guitar, mandolin, vocal).
Throughout the 60's and 70’s, the brothers were part and party to a hoarde of musical happenings, not least of all as a support/warm-up act for The Who, Joe Cocker, The Small Faces, Crazy world of Arthur Brown and The Move.
The brothers are born and bred Irish, but over the last decade, they have been living in and working out of London. During this time Michael has been working as a band-musician on musical-projects such as "Eladore", "Cloud Nine" and "Hair".
Fergie on the other side of the Irish Sea at home in Ireland was very much involved in the big showband scene that was very popular He shared many stages with people like Joe dolan, Red Hurley, Linda Nolan, Sandy Jones, Johnny logan and Glen Curtin.
Their repertoire is a curiously alluring mix of Pop-Rock and Scottish/Irish folk-music, played with a heddy mix of lead and rhythm guitar, mandolin and crisp vocal work so good, that if you are not already a fan by the time they arrive, you will be a true convert and on your feet in admiration by the end.
Harness have been one of the most popular irish folk duo’s in Denmark throughout the last 14 years, their creative original sound has stood the test of time and will surely continue to do so for ANOTHER 14 years!
Originally formed by Peter Wood and Andy Ramage all those years ago, they strived to put their all into the
work, but when original co-creator Andy decided to slow things down, Fergie was given his crack at the limelight and gratefully took up the reigns.
Later on down the line, Peter, after also feeling the time was right to focus on other things, graciously stepped down and was soon replaced by Jason Dove.
Despite the original members being gone, there was no let up in desire to entertain, so the band lived on and the music still flowed.
Eight long years would pass with this dynamic new duo, until Jason Dove also felt the time was right for him to shift focus and move his priorities to family life, thus making room for new recruit Sam Aherne.
Sam was just what the band needed, possessing of a natural talent to entertain with either song or laughter, both delivered with an easy camaraderie and cheerful good humour.
Sam had previously spent time as a member of both popular Irish bands "Dublin Folk" and "Mick And The Gate" respectively.
You will never forget an evening with "Harness". Fergie and Sam are the embodiment of the bands ethos, playing a Smörgåsbord of Scottish and Irish music with laughter, fun, jokes and great music.
